Boy, we have been waiting and waiting for this vacation and it finally came. We took an afternoon flight out of Kansas City to Los Angeles on Wednesday. The kids were great on the plane ride, but the time difference really did them in once we got here. Needless to say, we didn’t really do much of anything the first day except visit with some friends and attempt to get our kids to go to bed when it was still light outside.
We knew before we even arrived in California that we wanted to spend as much time at the beach as possible. So Thursday morning we got up (some of us WAY too early) and headed out to visit Great Grandma Bernice and Great Grandpa Larry before hitting up the beach. Every time we’re there, Grandpa fools them by making a noise with his mouth and saying there’s a cat hiding somewhere. They can never find the cat, but they always keep looking. The girls were already making a plan for how to find that tricky cat on the car ride over.
We spent a couple of hours visiting and the kids played all their favorite games: count and sort Grandma’s change, look for the cat that doesn’t really exist, play cards with Grandpa, and watch Grandpa’s card tricks. All three of them were super tired and grouchy, but we had a good time anyway.
After our visit, we headed straight for Seal Beach. We spent a couple hours splashing in the waves and soaking up some sun. It’s amazing to me that my kids can be fighting and yelling at each other, but the second they hit the beach, it’s all forgotten. Now, they definitely didn’t get over the whining, and the minute we left the beach the fighting resumed, but at least we had a couple hours of peace.
I’m excited to see how the rest of our trip plays out after the kids adjust a bit to the time change. I DO know, we’ll be spending lots and lots and lots of time exploring all the beautiful beaches of Southern Cali.
