Note: This is post 4 of a 12 post series of our family adventure in Thailand with our wonderful friends, the McManus family.
The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary. We chose this place for our elephant adventures because we wanted to support a place that took proper care of their elephants. A lot of elephant places in Thailand allow you to ride on the elephants. But where the chains/harnesses are placed it’s torture for the elephants, especially when you are talking about 2-3 people on top of an elephant. Not cool, elephant places. Not cool.
The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary rescues their elephants + takes super good care of them. In our group there was even a little baby elephant! Can you say swoon in Thai? We chose the half day excursion, they also offer morning sessions as well as overnight sessions. The half day consisted of 3 main parts. They pick you up and drive you to the sanctuary where you get to start off by feeding, hugging + kissing the elephants. Then you get fed an amazing lunch before heading down to give them a mud bath (Note: it’s lots of poo as well, but hey! Elephants!) + you finish the elephant excursion by washing all the mud off in the river.
The trainers were all super excited and you could tell they really cared about the well-being of the animals, which made the experience even more fun for everyone. This was one of the highlights of our trip (and that’s saying something because our trip was filled with daily amazingness.
